I kinda thought that by buying this, no extra modification to the shell would be needed but I actually ended up breaking a screen because of it. It's still great! But definitely needs to be machined a little more.
The clear shell feels great and looks authentic. I did still have to trim around the IPS screen a bit to get it to fit, but luckily it was only a little bit of work needed.
The modified shell saved me a lot of hassle that would've took me too long to deal with. I think the shell was worth the few extra bucks to have it ready to use.
Although it was nice to not have to handle most of the work, the ips screen didn't actually fit and required a little more trimming on the sides and below on the dpad.
Other than that it works just great!
The shell trimming didn’t actually line up correctly and allow an IPS screen to fit. I had to do additional shell modification after the fact. Additionally the IR window is too thick to properly center the viewable area of the display. A modified IR window would be great.
The shell quality otherwise is pretty standard.
I bought the white shell and it looks great. As others have stated, I did need to do additional trimming by the D pad for the FunnyPlaying IPS screen to fit. Not a deal breaker, but not what I was expecting.
I was happy to find this shell as it is the same color as my original GameBoy and it was essentially ready for me to drop in a new screen. However, after trying to fit the screen into the case, I realized that it still needed some trimming around the corners of where the screen fits in addition to a nice sized portion of the D-pad area of the shell needing to be cut away. Not too difficult if you have a small rotating tool, but it's not entirely "drop in" if you're still required to make small changes. All in all, the quality of the shell itself is great and the bracket it comes with makes aligning the screen and installing it much easier.
