Description

Take your Game Boy restoration to the next level with the custom built, ultra-efficient and clean audio class D amplifier designed in-house by RetroSix. One of the first and only audio amplifiers for the Game Boy Advance SP.

The CleanAmp replaces the original audio amplifier and speaker of the Game Boy DMG Original, Color, Pocket Game Boy Advance or Game Boy Advance SP with a modern smooth and crazy loud (1 Watt) Class-D amplifier and 23mm speaker.

Experience the sounds of the old school games like you will of never heard them before, in clear, responsive detail.

The original audio amplifier on the Game Boy consoles is old technology; it is very inefficient, it uses more power and outputs very quiet sound to the speakers.

During their journey of restoration perfection at RetroSix, they reverse engineered and analyzed lots of the Game Boy's components. The original audio amplifier and speaker had various faults.

  • The speaker is very quiet and inefficient for a power to sound output ratio
  • The audio amplifier is very dirty, and brings in lots of audio ground noise
  • The amplification gain is very low so the sound output is too low to be enjoyable

The CleanAmp board by RetroSix addresses all of those issue, providing a clean, stable, and efficient output with a clear, responsive and very loud speaker.

Features:

  • Hear your game boy across the room
  • v1.1 includes larger solder pads for easier installation
  • The PureSilence upgrade is built into v1.1 for the Game Boy Advance, giving complete silence when the volume wheel is turned all the way down, both in headphones and to the speaker.
  • Compatible with original headphone jack, sound stops when plugging in headphones.

Included
  • 1x 23mm 1 watt speaker
  • 1 x CleanAmp v1.1
  • 1 x speaker ring sticker

Note: Basic soldering skills and tools required. *Pleaes use 28-30 AWG stranded core wire to install. Anything thicker may cause the solder pads to lift*

Installation

Some may experience a hum when changing brightness on the Game Boy Color TFT LCD backlight mod. Solve this problem by replacing a capacitor on the GBC motherboard.

Loud as heck and awesome

Very happy with it. Installed in a DMG-01 alongside the clean power voltage regulator. Clean sound, did not bridge contacts for louder circuit either, loud enough as is.

Sounds great

This amp works great. Nice upgrade. If your worried about the soldering don’t be. It’s not too hard but it is very small so I would recommend a magnifying glass and a light. Initially received a faulty amp but Chris from tech was great. Awesome communication. They sent me a new one right away.

A Mono amp on an internally stereo system... This is fine...

The GB/GBP/GBC instructions for this amp ask you to bypass the gameboy's amp, but this product is missing an important feature, that without makes audio actually worse.
A fair number of games actually play music or sounds in stereo. The built in amp will combine the Left and Right audio if you use the speaker. This product does not. instead opting to take only one side. Surely someone who "reverse engineered and analyzed lots of the Game Boy's components." would realize this.

For the GBA the instructions ask you to amplify the speaker output. I guess that works if you just want to make the GBA louder.

Excellent amplifier for any gameboy.

this kit is incredible. highly recommend for anyone who really wants to hear their old gameboy console. if you're new to soldering, take your time, and you don't need to max out the heat on your iron. i strongly recommend getting the kynar hookup wire from here as well if you want a really easy time. https://handheldlegend.com/products/kynar-hook-up-wire-5m?_pos=1&_sid=eeb6b6223&_ss=r

if you're an audio nut and the extra loud hissing and humming bothers you, you can get the super teeny tiny dehum kit from here or go get the same mod on an easy ribbon cable from helder gaming tech for a better modding experience https://www.heldergametech.com/?s=game+boy+advance

there are guides to install this amplifier on the gameboy color, advance, and SP, you just gotta look a little bit for the former and the latter.
