I gave this shell and one of my best condition ds lite’s to a friend who has re-shelled them before. He could NOT get the shell to onto the ds. The screws that were provided in the kit were so soft that they stripped immediately and he was not able to unscrew them to fix it. The shell did not fit properly and he had to do a lot of trimming to even try to get it to fit.
This shell ruined a ds lite I had. Save your money and buy from another company.
I got the purple shell and it was not made well. The shell itself is molded poorly, the cheapness of the plastic is terrible to hold, and it sometimes didn't fit without having to cut off parts of the shell that weren't molded correctly. Overall I do not recommend, just get an original shell and swap it.
The shell was mostly alright, but poor molding removal left several areas that required locating and trimming. Motherboard wouldn’t set properly in both sides and the shell itself wouldn’t fully seal until I trimmed down some areas including boring out the hole for holding the shoulder pin on one side.
On the face of it, the clear case seems decent quality and is really crystal clear. It has great "curb appeal." However, the shoulders are a complete mistake. Take a look at one compared to an OEM shell: this product tapers them aggressively near where they touch the trigger button, guaranteeing that you will have one or both of your shoulder buttons be unusable after final assembly if there's any misalignment. Also, I hope you get it right the very first try, because the self-threading screw holes guarantee you will strip at least one of them every time you open the shell. I do not recommend.
I got the clear green shell and everything was fine; however my friend ordered the clear blue for me to replace on his, and it required trimming excess plastic (including drilling out the slot that the bumper pins fit in), and the bottom shell was deformed so that it would not close correctly - even the replacement shell that was sent after contacting HHL had the exact same deformation, which leads me to believe it’s something wrong with the mold used for manufacturing. Also the new bumper buttons sent did not fit against the springs correctly and could not be used. After the trouble I went through with the blue shell I didn’t bother to check if the green buttons fit.
It’s weird how the problems were only on the blue shells and not green, so my guess is that the quality varies by color.
Clear Blue - Shell looks decent and has a smooth glossy finish and feel on the outside with a textured finish on the inner parts. It does smudge easily on the smooth. Feels reasonably durable. Had to clear the hinge opening of plastic preventing cables from going through. Triggers had lots of extra plastic left over from manufacturing.
Most parts fit well and went together without a hitch but the lower bottom shell piece is deformed in one spot which makes it not fit well by a trigger and looks funny, not linear. At first, thought the trigger mechanism parts weren't fitting correctly but upon inspection the shell itself is deformed in a weird spot. Tried to capture images showing it (hard to capture). Almost like a melted deformation. The right trigger is not good in the set I received and cannot be depressed properly when installed which is unusual. Pretty disappointed but was able to re-use some OEM parts and made a functioning complete DS Lite in the end.
