All ribbon cables should have no bends or creases in them. If you are unsure how to perform a dry run, please contact our support team and we will be happy to help. Backlight kits that have been installed are not eligible for replacement or return.

Awesome!

Great parts and instructions make it easy to install. I personally had to remove the wires for the brightness sensors, i think i might have had my soldering heat to hi and kind of messed up the board on the controls, what ended up happening was that the brightness would just randomly start going down every 10-20 seconds, so i just removed both of them and just ise the select and right or left bumper, they work just fine adjusting the brightness. The sensors were also a bit to sensitive, but like i said, it was probably my fault on over heating the, to much. Regardless, the brightness can get REALLY bright switch i love!

Great Screen, Not Quite "Drop In"

The product itself is excellent, the screen looks great and it fits an unmodified shell as described. The half star off is because the process of installing it is a little more complex then "Drop In" implies. Overall though I'm very happy, when I need another screen I'll be buying from HHL again.

Thanks for your review! The build looks excellent! If you could, please reach out to us at support@handheldlegend.com as we would like to hear your feedback on why this doesn't seem to be 'Drop In'. We want to make sure all our product pages and install guides provide the best and most updated information we can provide.

Perfect drop-in solution :)

This ips is gorgeous, with a vivid color palette. The ips appears to be the same size as the original gba lcd, and installs fairly easy. It should be noted that as described by HHL, aftermarket shells(especially the larger ips-ready) will vary a bit with the install process. I purchased a gba dust guard separately, glued the skinny piece to the left, the larger underneath flush to bottom-left corner, then I made skinny strips of dustguard center on the top and right side to secure the screen level(I had an ips-ready shell), secured circuitry and screen with residue-free tape, and insulated the circuitry afterward. I’m amazed at how accurately the screen aligned in an ips-ready shell. If I could do it, I think anyone could install this. If you don’t have an og stock shell, you may need more than the sticks to secure the screen, and will definitely have to think outside the box for installing in the larger ips shells, but it’s hella legit. The screen is TOUGH. I handled it with care, but was able to put decent pressure while securing screen in my make-shift bracing and the sticks :) I heavily advise handling with care, and be slow with no more than firm pressure. My strange install was due to me receiving my gba with a stock screen installed in an ips-ready shell with the foam and all preserved. If you are installing in a stock shell, I’m fairly certain it will be easy for you. If installing in an aftermarket stock-size screen case, it may go best with adhesive. If ips-ready shell, use adhesive or unconventional methods and a dust guard. The dust control is IMPERATIVE. I can confirm that these screens are tough as nails, vibrant, and gorgeous. This ips helped me breathe new life into gba classics. I had a difficult time getting it alligned perfectly, but that was because I chose to maintain ips-ready shell with this screen. I can safely say I made the right choice.

Drop in IPS Review

Being the first time I’ve done any modding, this installation gave me no issues and provided me the option to not have to solder anything. The brackets made it easy to align the screen and the pre-soldered brightness and color options are a nice addition. Overall, the quality is great and I would gladly use this again for future modding.

Poor quality

I purchased one...performed the dry test,it was ok... istalled it,everything worked well...everything went well...3 days latter 3 green lines appeared in the screen...very dissapointed

Thanks for your review! I'm sorry to see the issue. We generally see this when something is adding extra pressure to the back of the LCD and a defect will appear over time. Reach out to us at support@handheldlegend.com so we can look into what may have caused it.

Had high hopes

The test and dry fit all worked out great after watching both videos several times and also reading the instructions. Once I set the screen with the spacers and adhesive and assembled it all back together I had a black screen with sound. I took it all apart and tried several times to detach and reattach the ribbon and the best I could get was colored lines across the screen.
I tried to carefully take the screen out but of course it just came apart in 2 or 3 pieces. Old screen is back in, I'm disappointed and want my money back.

Thanks for your review! It sounds like a connectivity issue or shorting was occurring here. Something may have also been broken during the actual install since the kit worked originally during the testing. Please reach out to support@handheldlegend.com so we may troubleshoot this further with you.
