The old lighting tubes in the SEGA Game Gear are obsolete in the world of modern electronics. Tube lighting is a major power drain and many bulbs have burnt out or have lost their brightness. With a backlight replacement kit, you can double the battery life of your console, prevent overheating, improve screen brightness and improve the consistency of your LCD screen. This panel is thick to provide optimal light distribution and includes 5 bright SMD LEDs.

Modifying a product in any way, including but not limited to removing or adding components, will result in the voiding of our return/refund policy.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.
Defective or damaged parts are free to return within 30 days of purchase. Shipping costs are not covered for items returned at a customer's request or the refusal of the troubleshooting process with our support. Refunds for shipping costs and Route Shipping Insurance will not be given.
Please note that international orders are not eligible for a prepaid shipping label for returns on defective products. Returns must be paid for by the customer.

You may cancel or edit orders yourself (before fulfillment) by following the steps in this guide. If you edit/cancel your order, you can expect a refund within 1 to 7 business days. Orders that have been fulfilled by our shipping team cannot have edits made or be canceled. It looks great and definitely fills its role as a dead tube replacement. It just works.
I recommend using excess cap legs or the extra from the resistor leg to bridge L4; don't do a solder blob. Also the reflective housing for the bulb needs some of its top front (that touches the old diffuser) sanded down for a true flush fit since the LED board is thicker than the diffuser was. Otherwise it pushes the LCD too far out to stay in the bracket/flush with the side that was glued. You can just lightly tighten the screws to keep it in place and avoid it pushing the LCD out, but if you use a bit of sand paper you can get a flush fit. Definitely use a saw and sand paper to finish the bracket cuts and it will be perfectly center.
Installing it is not for the faint hearted...if you don't have a Dremel or a 3D printer for the mounting bracket, this Install will be very difficult, also lining up the screen is very difficult as well, overall too much trouble to save some battery life, not much visual improvement over the cfl. Go for the clean screen if you can, much better.
I think this replacement LED backlight is a great value for the money, it will yield over 3x the battery life over the original backlight and is a great option to replace a bad backlight. Personally, I prefer the look of the original fluorescent backlight over this one, I feel that the fluorescent backlight is brighter and yields better color; the screen is a bit more washed out with the LED backlight in my opinion. Also the LED hotspots on the top of the screen are a bit distracting to me, others may find that this isn't a problem.
As far as installation goes, it is very straightforward, I recommend watching a few YouTube videos. When cutting the old bracket, use a rotary tool such as a dremel instead of a knife, the plastic diffuser is made of very brittle plastic.
Final thoughts; this backlight is a very inexpensive option to replace a broken backlight in a Game Gear or for someone who values better battery life over look of the screen. If you have a Game Gear with a bad backlight, you can't go wrong with this.
I found the mod quite hard to pull off. The installation of the screen with LED backlight didn't went without struggles. But I managed to succeed, the backlight works as intended so the product provided by HHL is good.
Bought this to replace the CFL for a customer of mine who was looking for a low-cost solution. While it does work and uses less power, it's not without flaws. For starters, the instructions are not as well written as other products from Handheld Legend. The install easy in hindsight but the pictures aren't very good representations. You will definitely need non-conductive tape to anchor the backlight in place or you'll struggle to get it to seat evenly. I'd be okay with this if it weren't for the fact the LED's are a blue hue and makes the colors really washed out no matter how you adjust the contrast. This really should be a white LED. Also the edge bleed on top is pretty noticeable. It gets the job done for $5 but if you care about a decent looking image you should probably just splurge and get an IPS or McWill upgrade screen.
Followed the installation video and had no drama. Was careful separating the diffuser from the LCD and used a Dremel tool to cut the sides of the diffuser for use in orienting the LCD. Orienting the LCD was still a little tricky. The only improvement to this mod that I can think of is making/adding an orienting bracket for the LCD screen so it doesn't move around during the assembly. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product. It works great!
