Backlight and illuminate your beloved childhood GBC with a modern IPS LCD with improved color, contrast and viewing angle. This enhanced version of the 1.0 kit comes with a custom lens pre laminated to the LCD, choose your color.
As of 10/25/23 - The black, white, yellow, and blue variants we have in stock will have the new OSD menu and its features. Remaining variants will have the old OSD menu. Please see 'Functions' section for more information.

FUNCTIONS:
For newer version of kit with START and SELECT:
- Hold down START and SELECT together for a few seconds to open the OSD menu.
- Quick press START and SELECT to make adjustments in the current menu option.
- To move to the next menu option or back to a previous menu option, hold either START or SELECT in the direction of the menu option needed.
- To exit the OSD menu, hold down START and SELECT together for a few seconds or the menu will time out on its own.
For newer version of kit with TOUCH SENSOR:
- Tap and hold the touch sensor for 3 seconds to open OSD menu.
- Quick tap to make adjustments in the current menu option.
- To move to the next menu option, tap and hold the touch sensor for 2 seconds.
- To exit the OSD menu, hold the touch sensor for 3 seconds or the menu will time out on its own.
Newer version kit functions:
- BRT = Brightness options
- DSP = Pixel Modes
- FRM = Frame Blending Mode - flicker reduction
- LGC = GBC logo color options
- R/G/B = Customize GBC logo color options
- N = Move the display image left and right respectively
For older version of kit:
- Hold down START and SELECT together for a few seconds, the "GAME" on the lens should be the only word lit up. This is "Mode 1." Here you can use the SELECT and START button to move the display image down and up respectively.
- Tap on the touch sensor to bring it to "Mode 2." You should see "Boy" lit up now. Here You can use SELECT and START to move the display image left and right respectively.
- Tap on the touch sensor again to bring it "Mode 3." You should see "Color" lit up. Use START and SELECT separately to cycle through the different color options.
- Hold down START and SELECT together again for a few seconds to confirm, and exit.
- To cycle the different Pixel modes, tap and hold where the touch sensor is for a few seconds, and the LCD will change to different screen modes each time you perform this.
PIXEL MODES:
- Built-in 5 display effects.
- Full pixel copy display (display the highest brightness, gorgeous and concise)
- Classic GBC display (perfectly restore the original display effect)
- Classic RGB display (perfectly restore the original display effect, and the pixel gap looks smaller, the brightness will be slightly darker)
- RGB display (closest to the original display, but the brightness is very low)
- Grid line display (close to the display effect of DMG)

- How to test your LCD kit - *Soldering may be required to dry test this kit. Soldering the power wire in this case will not void the return policy.
NOTES:

Kits may no longer include a touch sensor as a separate item. This kit has a touch sensor already included on the black ribbon cable. You may use this one by simply folding into the front or back of the shell, to rest on the top of the shell. You may also use the included touch sensor ribbon and solder it onto the 'TCH' point. Depending on the size/shape of this touch ribbon will change it's placement within the shell.
- The power wire may need to soldered for the LCD to show an image. It may not be required with later versions, however, in order to receive maximum brightness on the LCD this wire will need to be soldered on. If your LCD is not showing an image (remains black but you hear the start chime), please solder the PWR wire.
- After installation, if it is noted that your touch sensor is overly sensitive or is cycling, please see this article for assistance.
WARNINGS:
- You do not need to purchase a separate lens. Removing pre-adhered lens from LCD can result in damage to the LCD and will void product warranty. If you received an extra lens in your order, this was likely a included plastic lens with a shell and should NOT be placed on top of the pre-adhered lens.

Test before installation! When you receive a backlight/LCD kit, you should perform a dry run before installing to assure that nothing has been damaged in transit. A dry run or test fit means the kit is not installed in the shell. This includes the use of adhesives, brackets, and any performed soldering. All ribbon cables should have no bends or creases in them. If you are unsure how to perform a dry run, please contact our support team and we will be happy to help. Backlight kits that have been installed are not eligible for replacement or return.
- LCD may break if put under too much pressure or dropped. Please exercise extreme caution when installing.
Orders placed with us will be fulfilled within 1 to 2 business days. Delays may occur depending on the volume we experience. This is especially true during sales and around the winter holidays. To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.
Defective or damaged parts are free to return within 30 days of purchase. Shipping costs are not covered for items returned at a customer's request or the refusal of the troubleshooting process with our support. Refunds for shipping costs and Route Shipping Insurance will not be given.
Please note that international orders are not eligible for a prepaid shipping label for returns on defective products. Returns must be paid for by the customer.

We reserve the right to deduct an amount proportional to the chosen shipping return method from your refund if you order does not quality for a free return:

Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund.
If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your original method of payment, within 1-7 business days.

LATE OR MISSING REFUNDS (IF APPLICABLE)
If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account. Then contact your bank or credit card company. It may take some time before your refund is officially posted.

CANCEL/EDIT ORDERS
You may cancel or edit orders yourself (before fulfillment) by following the steps in this guide. If you edit/cancel your order, you can expect a refund within 1 to 7 business days. Orders that have been fulfilled by our shipping team cannot have edits made or be canceled. We will do our best to assist customers in this process if needed, but it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that their order and shipping information is correct before processing the order. This is such a beautiful screen brings a retro console to life, they made it so easy to solder up I ended up soldering to the test pads to make it easier and I also like the look of being able to see the wires, very nice screen.

completely changed my experience with my gameboy color. colors and filter look amazing
I originally ordered one of these screens based on how good it sounded on paper. Unfortunately for me, the first one I purchased had a lot of dead pixels. I reached out to HHL and they replaced the screen. All was well until recently when a dark “shadow” effect began to show on the screen corner. Also, the lamination is beginning to fail where the word “color” is written on the logo causing an unsightly look. When it was working perfectly, it was awesome.
