The Game Boy DMG Q5 3.1" Laminated IPS LCD Backlight Kit with OSD is a full size modern IPS backlight for your original DMG game boy. This LCD is a formidable upgrade and has a PCB replacement for those of you who may be looking for a replacement LCD. There is finally a solution for those who have broken or damaged their LCD or ribbon cable during a backlight installation.

To use brightness, color, and OSD features on contrast wheel:

  • Cycle normally for brightness
  • Short press (one to two seconds) then cycle for color
  • Long press (five seconds) to enter OSD (On Screen Display) mode.

    WARNINGS:

    • Test before installation! When you receive a backlight/LCD kit, you should perform a dry run before installing to assure that nothing has been damaged in transit. A dry run or test fit means the kit is not installed in the shell. This includes the use of adhesives, brackets, and any performed soldering. All ribbon cables should have no bends or creases in them. If you are unsure how to perform a dry run, please contact our support team and we will be happy to help. Backlight kits that have been installed are not eligible for replacement or return.
    • LCD may break if put under too much pressure or dropped. Please exercise extreme caution when installing.

    What an upgrade!

    I have bi-verted and backlit other DMG-01s in the past and they look great but there's no way they can match the clarity and quality of a modern day display. While it's awesome to use as much original hardware as possible, we have to take a look back and realize this new screen tech is a fantastic addition to these wonderful machines.

    I found the installation process super easy and straight forward. The process took little to no time at all and it's literally a drop-in replacement for the old display board. I used an aftermarket shell and it dropped right in. I will definitely do another on a stock shell eventually because I'm hooked!

    The only issue I have had with this installation and why I deducted a point, was because the ribbon cable is so darn tight. I'm pretty sure it's much thicker than the original stock cable. I had issues getting it in and when I did, the corner bent a little. I managed to get it straightened out and it worked until I went to button the case together. The screen would flicker when I put the two shells together. It would only work half open. I ended up having an issue where the D-Pad was unresponsive as well. After I flipped the cable around, everything worked fine.

    I would definitely buy it again and next time I'll be prepared for the stiffer ribbon cable.

    Absolutely Beautiful Screen, poor button response

    Finally got my new Hispeedido DMG Laminated IPS screen installed. The screen looks absolutely amazing and I love the custom color adjustment. The issue I am having is the button sensitivity with the new front PCB seems very low, I need to push quite firmly on the buttons and especially the D Pad for them to register with the new front PCB, which makes games like super mario land very difficult to play. I've tested it with both original dmg buttons / silicone membranes as well as new buttons and silicone membranes, both give the same poor results. The original buttons and silicone membranes were very responsive using the original nintendo pcb that was replqced. Hoping this is a one off issue, as this looks beautiful, but isnt really playable without a lot of frustration.

    Defective or damaged parts are free to return within 30 days of purchase. Shipping costs are not covered for items returned at a customer's request or the refusal of the troubleshooting process with our support. Refunds for shipping costs and Route Shipping Insurance will not be given.

    We reserve the right to deduct an amount proportional to the chosen shipping return method from your refund if you order does not quality for a free return:

    REFUNDS (IF APPLICABLE)

    Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund.

    If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your original method of payment, within 1-7 business days.

    Refunds for shipping costs and Route Shipping Insurance will not be given.

    LATE OR MISSING REFUNDS (IF APPLICABLE)

    If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account. Then contact your bank or credit card company. It may take some time before your refund is officially posted.

    You may cancel or edit orders yourself (before fulfillment) by following the steps in this guide. If you edit/cancel your order, you can expect a refund within 1 to 7 business days. Orders that have been fulfilled by our shipping team cannot have edits made or be canceled. We will do our best to assist customers in this process if needed, but it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that their order and shipping information is correct before processing the order.
