SEGA Game Gear Replacement Shell

The Shell both looks great and feels great in the hand. My one gripe is with the screws it came with. I managed to strip every exterior screw while trying to tap the screw posts. Either I was using the wrong screwdriver or these are some weak screws. Just be cautious when putting the 2 shell halves together as the tolerances are very tight.

Overall this is amazing, but there's one problem.
The screws that come with it, you need to use because they have a sharp tip.
Which you'll need as the shell isn't pre-threaded (makes sense)
The problem with them, is they are as soft as warm butter.
I had 2 of them strip, with the most minimal of force, and had to destroy the shell to get it back open.
I'll order a nother one, because I like the shell so much.
Just be 'overly' careful with your screwdriver.

So I ordered both the grey and the dark blue Game Gear shells. Unfortunately the dark blue does not match the original dark blue game gears Sega put out, but matches the start button of the game gear. That is a big difference in color. the quality is top-notch tho. These look and feel amazing. I want to note that the mounting bracket for the speaker comes with the buttons and not the shell itself which is dumb. But the cartridge Shield is pre trimmed for the mcwill mod to make your life easier and the battery compartments are flat without dividers so you can easily put lithium ion batteries in there. I really appreciate that. I wanted to do a blue Game Gear like the original, but the color accuracy was off. So I made a Japanese Sega Saturn theme Game Gear and I absolutely love it even more. Also using a hot airgun I was able to gently warm up the serial number sticker on back of my original Game Gear and re-stick it onto the new one. Makes it look that much nicer. Pro tip. None of the screw posts have been pre threaded. So I recommend you take all the correct new screws and per thread the posts before installing the guts. And use a paper towel to spend the screw around with the screwdriver to get the excess plastic off. It'll make taking the screw in and out much easier in the future.

The shell looks amazing. It feels great and sturdy. The color is beautiful and it’s an all around pleasure to look at. My only complaint was it was a bit iffy to screw together with the included screws for whatever reason. I included a picture of when I was struggling to get it to fully close up. It kept pulling apart like the screws weren’t threading or going in all the way so I had to use some of the original screws to get it to stay together. I’d definitely buy it again, though! Just be mindful of putting all the screws in and really getting them secured fully.

The overall shape and feel of the shell is fine, but the screws that come with it strip at the drop of a hat, one of them stripped so bad that it's now stuck, and I can't get the shell apart at all, which has trapped my board in the shell. If it weren't for the quality of the shell itself, that would earn it a 1 star review
