This cap kit for the Game Gear contains all parts necessary to replace the electrolytic capacitors of any VA1 and VA0 model Game Gears.

All caps are included for the:

Main PCB
Sound PCB
Power PCB

This kit replaces surface mount with radial lead capacitors

If you have a really early Japanese VA1 with sound PCB 837-7400-01, this may not be the best capacitor kit for this version.

NOTES:

Some replacement caps may have higher voltage ratings than the original parts (e.g. 100uF 10v instead of 100uF 6.3v)
For easier installation of SMD-type Audio PCB caps with a soldering iron, the plastic spacer on the bottom of the cap can be clipped off, giving extra space to fit the soldering iron & solder.
Product history: 2018-06 - Changed audio PCB caps to surface mount.
Unless noted in the description, all Console5 products are fully tested and guaranteed. Cap kits are made using name brand, high quality, high-temp parts from Nichicon, Panasonic, and other reputable companies.
This kit replaces the obsolete main board surface mount with radial lead capacitors. New surface-mount style caps are included for the audio & main boards where originally equipped.

My Game Gear works once again, would be nice if it came with instructions

The kit works well. I was able to identify and change out all the capacitors but it would be nice if it included a list or a layout as this could have sped up the project. I did not have access to the Wiki when I was doing this mod and a printout would have been nice. Not an issue but this is re-sold from another company. The price was the same so no issue there.

Easy to use and install

Even though a lot of the original capacitors are weird rectangular shapes, the cylindrical ones in this kit are either the same size or smaller so they fit right in place. I will definitely get more in the future when I need them.

Product did exactly what I had hoped. Can now play.

Had power and sound but no picture. Replaced caps and now it works. Will probably upgrade screen as it is still washed out. It did take a couple more days to receive my shipment than I’d hoped but that’s just me being eager to tinker.
