NOTES:

  • *It is recommended to not install the audio jack if you plan to use a standard SP battery, as fitting a battery is easier without the audio jack. If you are planning on using the Mame Boy Advance SP Kit without the headphone jack, short the headphone jack pins as per the photos in this link. If you do not do this, you will have no audio through the speaker.
  • Mame Boy Advance SP requires a Raspberry Pi with a header. If you have a Pi with a pre-installed header, no soldering required. If not, you will be required to solder the header to the Pi.
  • Although not required, adding the additional 2 front buttons will open up more games to play on the Zega Mame Boy Advance SP. Some shell modification is required. You can also purchase a ready drilled shell from the Zega store.
  • PCB color may vary.
  • Raspberry Pi, shell, buttons, membranes, speaker, battery, hinges not included.

    WARNINGS:

    • Please ensure you are confident in your soldering ability to attempt this project. Under no circumstances will any refunds/replacements be made if soldering has been attempted.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my own image?

Technically yes, but you would need to install all the required drivers manually for the LCD, GPIO input and audio output yourself. I do not support 3rd party images. If there are any issues while using your own image, I'm afraid I cannot help. Why not do it the easy way and download my pre-configured image

    Is there any soldering involved?

The only soldering required is to solder the battery extension cable to the charging board.

Do you have an installation guide?

Pre-check and installation guides are available in the download area.

Can I use my Game Boy cartridges?

Unfortunately not. The Zega Mame Boy kit replaces the original GameBoy PCBs

    Buttons are registering intermittantly?

If you find you are having to press hard to register an input I would recommend cleaning all the buttons contants and membranes with isopropyl alchohol.

Where can I buy the batteries?
