Designed and tested in the UK by a reputable modder and builder, the RetroSix/Hand Held Legend CleanJuice for Game Boy is the ultimate upgrade to your console. Adds 11.1 watts of power (compared to 2 watt for the largest AA batteries available) giving you almost 6 times the game time!

*Current version of board is black.

  • Charge at any time using a Power Delivery (PD) compliant USB-C cable
  • Connect battery to CleanJuice board (only fits in one way)
  • If your shell is a RetroSix IPS modified shell, no need to do anything. If it's regular shell, you will need to trim the 3 battery line stumps at the bottom of the battery compartment where the AA batteries usually go so that its flat.
  • Place battery into shell with the wire coming out at the bottom left corner, and the battery pushing the top left spring in.
  • Push the battery down at the bottom end.
  • Place the CleanJuice board on top of battery and push the springs down to make contact with top battery springs. The other 3 battery springs need to be removed
  • Pair with a USB-C battery cover for the DMG (sold separately)
  • You can also cut a hole for the USB-C port using a 4mm drill bit and drill 3 holes in the center of the battery cover as shown in the image.
  • Put the back cover on the console, and you are ready to go.
  • Give the CleanJuice a full charge and enjoy hours of gaming! Check out this article to see how long it could last.

Light Indicator Key:

  • If the PG labeled light on the board is on, this means the USB cable is providing power to the system. This also means you can power your console from the USB without draining the battery - plug and play option.
  • If the CHRG labeled light on the board is on, this means the USB is charging the battery. When it goes off, the battery is fully charged.
  • Both indicator lights will be on when module is charging. When module is fully charged, only the PG light will remain.
  • If you connect a USB cable and the PG light does not turn on, your cable or power supply are faulty.

  • 1x Lithium ion rechargeable battery
  • 1x Cleanjuice PCB

I couldn’t believe what I bought!

Everyone listen!

No soldering.

I guess I forgot the product description or something but when I went to look for installation tutorials I had to stop and review. Where was the step where I connected the recharging board to the battery contacts? Oh. OH!

Yep. Just stick the battery to the board. Click the extra battery contacts out of the shell and pop! You’re in and ready to go. That’s with the new IPS ready shell. But still. Mind blown.

Easiest install ever

I love that I can now use a USB cable to charge the battery rather than have to use AA batteries all the time. The install in the shells that support it took all of 10 seconds. It's a bit more work using an OEM shell as you need to remove the bits of plastic that divide the batteries.

Easy and works like a charm!

This is a no brainer mod and works perfectly. So glad I’m not having to swap rechargeable AA’s out anymore.

So far, perfect! Great fit and easy to install with funnyplaying case that is designed for this. Just remember to remove the old AA contacts before closing the shell line I didn't. I installed this on Tuesday evening, charged to full And have been paint all week, played and beat all my old favorites (done multiple times), played and tried a ton of other games and have not needed a charge yet and it's now Sunday. This is with a funnyplaying ips screen and a everdrive gb x5. Plus usb-c charging??

No sir, I don't like it.

I refer to this as a "ghetto mod". First you have to damage your battery bay (and compartment if you didn't buy a replacement back) and they tell you do damage your springs as well. You can get around this by pressing them in as you insert the battery pack and chintzy little board. The contacts just graze and snag against the two outer springs.

Of course you might not know that because there aren't any instructions and the site relies on others to do their work for them with instructions and tutorials. Overall, I don't like it at all. It's cheaply made, the charging port is in the weirdest position, it doesn't provide contact that I can feel at ease about and you have to damage your case. They definitely need to put that in bold here. I wasn't aware of this and overlooked it when ordering. If you open up the back of your Gameboy it applies stress to the lone standing USB port. Just a terrible mod in my opinion. I give it two stars because it charges but I really don't like it or feel safe having it installed the way it just clips in. Not worth the price or the destruction. I can see spending $15 (including shipping) at most for something this low quality.
