WARNINGS:

  • Test before installation! When you receive a backlight/LCD kit, you should perform a dry run before installing to assure that nothing has been damaged in transit. A dry run or test fit means the kit is not installed in the shell. This includes the use of adhesives, brackets, and any performed soldering. All ribbon cables should have no bends or creases in them. If you are unsure how to perform a dry run, please contact our support team and we will be happy to help. Backlight kits that have been installed are not eligible for replacement or return.
  • LCD may break if put under too much pressure or dropped. Please exercise extreme caution when installing.

Easy Install For a Noob

This kit was SUPER easy to install and with just 2 places that needed soldering to get the speaker up and running it was an easy selection for me to make. I looked at other kits that retrofitted a new screen on the original PCB but the skill required to solder in the new parts made me decide that this option was the better one and I'm so glad that I did. Nobody can see it since my shell is solid but I'm stoked about the black PCB and gold contacts. Also so thankful that HHL was nice enough to include a new shell in my order... the original one I have just wouldn't look as good! It just looks so clean! Thanks HHL!!!

Easy to install

I've worked with gba and gbc ips kits, but this one has been the easiest to work with.

Great kit for a decent price

Wonderful bit of kit that is quite easy to install for the most part. Modifying the shell wasn't a fun job, but it came out just fine in the end. The upgraded screen is just gorgeous though and I've quite enjoyed picking up the DMG again to play some of my favorite titles.

Easy to install

I have installed several modern lcd screens in retro handheld systems but this was the quickest install I have ever done it is by far the best looking option to play my collection of games.

If you can solder two little dots you’re good.

Test it first, works as advertised!

almost perfect

The only reason this isn't 5 stars is that the aftermarket (obtained from HHL) shell does not fit properly with this kit: the "contrast" wheel--used to control brightness and change settings in the OSD menu-- will not turn once the case is asssembled. The problem is not the hole at the side of the case but that either the case isn't deep enough or the wheel sticks up too high off the Front PCB and rubs against the back PCB. Loosening the screws a bit helps, but I will have to file down the top of the plastic contrast wheel or live with a case that is a little loose. This is a pricey kit and standards should be higher; I would let this slide if I got this for $40 from some Chinese seller on eBay, but I've come to expect better from HHL.
