WARNINGS:

  • You do not need to purchase a separate lens. Removing pre-adhered lens from LCD can result in damage to the LCD and will void product warranty. If you received an extra lens in your order, this was likely an included plastic lens with a shell and should NOT be placed on top of the pre-adhered lens.
  • Test before installation! When you receive a backlight/LCD kit, you should perform a dry run before installing to assure that nothing has been damaged in transit. A dry run or test fit means the kit is not installed in the shell. This includes the use of adhesives, brackets, and any performed soldering. All ribbon cables should have no bends or creases in them. If you are unsure how to perform a dry run, please contact our support team and we will be happy to help. Backlight kits that have been installed are not eligible for replacement or return.
  • LCD may break if put under too much pressure or dropped. Please exercise extreme caution when installing.

Not as easy as it looks

So I bought the shell & screen mod for my GBA SP. I've soldered once, watched some how-to videos & started this project very confidently. It looked practically fool-proof. I'm sad to say when I reassemble my SP I can't get power to the screen. Best case; I can't get the ribbon cable seated properly. Worst case; my solder job damaged the board. I'll have to take it to a local shop for a better idea. Now the kit I received included a lense for the screen but must've been a mistake because it wouldn't fit in the shell! I was real upset i was unsuccessful but I blame myself & Hopefully I can get this to work.

Awesome Got a Modern looking gameboy now

This IPS LCD kit gave my gameboy a second life. Was thinking of playing pokemon but didn't feel as fun as it used to be. Main reason is because my eyes have been spoiled with modern high lit monitor screens that I got. Especially since my gameboy was an AGS 001 original version. Now with this new screen Ima start grinding my pokemon games catching & leveling them up. I did put 4 stars because the kit I received DID NOT come with the wire it was supposed to come with to solder so you can use button to dim or change screen settings. Luckily for me I had bought rolls of hook up wire and got it delivered the same day I decided to install the new screen. Didn't notice I was missing wire until I had taken apart my gameboy. Overall I do like the kit and yes it fits original GBA SP casing no trimming required to make IPS screen fit. PS 1st time I soldered so struggled during installing wire but I did it after hrs .

The screen is amazing!

No need soldering, it's just optional. Brightness adjust touching the screen. Best purchase ever!

Amazing upgrade!

I got tired of worrying about dust getting in my old GBA screen, so this new screen was a definite must-have!

Almost Perfect, but has a concerning flaw

I'm overall pleased with the results of the new laminated screen. Easy installation, and the preinstalled touch pads are a nice idea. The pixel grid effect looks like the real retro screens of old, and the other scanlines are pretty nice as well.

The only flaw I found, and it could be major, is for the games that use fast flashing sprites to simulate transparency. I played 1 race of F-Zero Maximum Velocity, and the pseudo-transparent track map had actually burned into the screen! I played around with some other games hoping that the ghost image would fade, and it did after about 7 or so minutes. I'm not exactly sure if the ghost image could be permanent or not if left sitting for an extended period. If any static object in a game's hud were to use this effect for a long duration, there'd be problems.
