This was my second mod and it was quite tricky to do! I spent an evening doing it, taking my time and got it done. I used Chip Quick to safely remove the screen entirely in order to peel off the backing and had no issues with vertical lines (which is a hazard when doing this mod). The bivert chip (not included) is an excellent little thing that really makes the backlight pop. I'm super happy with how it all looks!
The video makes it seem way easier than it is. I wouldn't suggest doing this unless you've dealt with similar things before. I accidentally made a small incision on the ribbon wire when trying to remove the silver sheet and adhesive completely ruining the whole gameboy that quickly. Now I'll have to either buy an entirely new front plate or buy a $60 mod to replace the entire screen section. Additionally, the website and video instructions conflict with one saying to use alcohol to remove the adhesive and the other saying not to or ruin in. Additionally the video mentions a resistor included in the package however the website indicates the resistor is built-in to the mod.
Another must have in any modified DMG! it makes everything look so much better and adds so much to it.
I installed this screen backlight with a bivert chip mod. I would recommend anyone who has an original DMG screen make these two upgrades. I can see the screen in any lighting conditions now. I beat Super Mario Land with the mod installed and this made playing so much better. I even took the time to clean the inside of the Gameboy screen cover.
The only thing I was not expecting was that it was more difficult to remove the old LCD polarizer. I anticipated two layers but mine came off in 3 - the clear back part, the silver part, and the polarizer. I think most folks pull off the polarizer and silver part in one step but this was my first install and I made it harder than it needed to be. I think it would be much easier next time.
