Upgrade your Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP with a bright and modern IPS LCD color display. The V2 version includes a standard PCB instead of a Flex PCB and allows brightness and color control.

The install was relatively easy. But I do recommend to buy a shell as well. The screen is simply beautiful
Installation was really easy in an IPS ready shell, although the PCB ended up very close to the shell making it slightly difficult to close. I added some double sided tape to hold the PCB to the back of the screen.
As others mention the touch pads are extremely sensitive and can be activated by touching the back of the screen. I tried placing them as far as possible and I still got false positives. I ended up removing them and soldering the small wire to have the brightness button control the brightness. I'm glad this is an option.
The screen can get incredibly bright, picture quality is really good and the screen resolution is way higher than an OEM AGS-101. However, this thing drains battery like crazy. I got one battery replacement from here and I couldn't get more than 5 hours in the lowest brightness possible from it. In comparison, an OEM display lasted me nearly 22 hours with the same battery. This is a no go for me. I'm surprised there aren't more comments about this.
I would recommend if you value picture quality over battery life.
Thanks for your review! Regarding the touch sensors, adding kapton tape over the already adhered touch pads can help with the sensitivity of the sensors. Sometimes removing those wires though can cause issues so normally this is not recommended but I am glad it worked out for you!
The original SP battery does give a very nice amount of gameplay hours with the OEM LCD kit. But with modern mods comes a way higher power consumption. Especially if you are running the LCD kit at full brightness. I know this can definitely be frustrating. The OEM battery ran at 600mAH. The aftermarket ones are generally between 850mAh and 900mAh so they have already been updated to help with these scenarios. Perhaps this is something that will continue to improve in the future as more research is done on these consoles. :)
Display comes to a halt after a random amount of gameplay while the game still runs and the copper touch pads are way too sensitive. When plugged in, I can put my hand an inch away from from the copper sensors and it registers as an input.
Thanks for the review! Regarding the touch sensors, you can add a piece of kapton tape to the back of the already adhered sensors to help with the sensitivity. Regarding the other issue, please shoot us a message to support@handheldlegend.com so we may troubleshoot this with you.
Works well but freezes my SP regularly might be switching back to the original because this makes playing Pokémon extremely frustrating. I’ve lost hours of my time due to not having saved before my screen freezes
Thanks for your review! This is a defect effecting a small stock of the kits we received from the supplier. Unfortunately, there is currently no fix for this issue that we are aware of. Please reach out to support@handheldlegend.com so we can work out a resolution for you!
Great Quality Screen and Nice Overall Display
The screen itself is great and a big upgrade to the LCD OEM screens. You of course lose the pixel style view but I believe there are other kits that can replicate that. The touch feature and the brightness feature with the soldered wire were not working correct. I had to reopen the shell and re-seat the wires again. If your kit starts to randomly change the brightness and color pallets like mine randomly did I recommend to re-seat the wires making sure they do not touch anything.
