Game Boy Color IPS LCD V3 Backlight Kit - Hispeedido

My goal was to simply have a stock looking GBC with a backlit screen and this screen definitely gets the job done. Apart from the translucent Purple, the original range of GBC's will go well with this screen. As the physical screen is longer than the stock screen, it will extend further down and will be visible on a transparent or translucent shell.

Some issues I ran into but overcame;
The alignment bracket comes in two parts, one that aligns the main body + top of the screen and another bracket for the bottom. The bottom one straddles the A + B button wells so it fits perfectly, however the top bracket, despite fitting well, may have caused too much bulk resulting in a very cramped and tight fit. Which leads me into the next issue.

The screen worked without issue outside of the shell, but once put back together, only displayed a black screen and wouldn't post, i.e I could hear the startup sound but it would not go into a game menu.

The fix appeared to be to remove the top alignment bracket. After putting it back together without the top bracket it worked without issues.

You will need to do some shell modification to get this to fit along with some cutting of the DPad according to the instructions. Although I made the advised cuts to the shell, I chose not to cut into the DPad simply due wanting to take that step last, however, the controls still work without major issues and I've continued to use the GBC without a trimmed Dpad.

As there are newer and smaller screens available that come with a lot of conveniences, this screen is in a precarious situation where you could definitely make it work, but would you really want to go through the trouble? I think it may be a good idea to reduce the cost of this screen by $10 or so to make the value proposition more enticing. At present, its too similarly priced to other screens that don't require extensive shell modding.

All in all, it's a solid option.

i'm wondering if these were even tested in a Gameboy Color before distribution. I purchased and V2 couple months ago and it looked fine. Still waiting for a response from Seller.

My GameBoy Color looks amazing with this screen. Colors are beautiful and texts are easy to read.
I removed the 2 copper touch button as i find they are very sensitive. Touching anywhere near it in a 1/2 inch radius causes the buttons to be pressed. Resulting in colors changing and brightness levels being adjusted.
I left it on the default setting when i installed it. I could go a bit lower in brightness though to save some battery life.
The code didn't work for me for the free glass screen and the link in the description for the aligning brackets will not fit the V3 pcb.

Does not fit correctly with these added inserts. It squishe the screen and motherboard

It's been a week of me emailing about a damaged screen I received, it had a broken ribbon and got one response to about 7 emails asking if the part circled in the photo I sent was the problem and no other response, I'm giving them till 3/6/21 before I escalate this to paypal and taking my business else where.......👋

I've spent the last three days trying to get this mod to play nice, and I have yet to succeed. The case modifications on this mod are so extreme that it ruins any possibility of using it on a clear case, which was my first mistake. Because the daughterboard makes contact with the GPU, the entire thing has to be kapton taped in order to stop it from shorting, and even then the touch function tends to activate randomly. The instructions on wiring are non-existent, so if you're like me and you want very specific step-by-step guides, you're out of luck. Overall, this mod just feels clunky and unpleasant compared to some of the others I've tried, and I honestly can't recommend it. You're much better off going with a drop-in model.
