The mod its self isn't to hard to instal. If you can take a joycon apart you can install this. It lights up nicely and has a fair amount of lighting options. I would by it somewhere else though. The ribbon I got for my left joycon was clearly used. All the double sided tape was missing its paper and it was already bent. After installing it it didn't work at all. I let them know it was clearly used with a picture of both joycons one working and the left not and I was asked to open it up so they can see how it's installed. Telling them you sent me a used product wasn't enough for a new ribbon to be sent. Wich to me is unacceptable.. I'm here to buy new products, not your junk that gets sent back because it doesn't work. Then insall the junk parts only to have to waste more time taking it apart to send pictures so I can then get a new part to take it apart again just to finally get what I payed for.

This product is genuinely cool and creates a really awesome and unique effect for your joycon. The only issue is that the installation experience is very difficult. I have taken apart and serviced about a dozen pairs of joycon myself, but installing the flex ribbon is very finicky. A big part of the problem is that the double sided tape on the flex pcb isn't very good, even before you attempt to stick it to an uneven surface like a board with components on it. I had a lot of trouble with the left joycon especially. Additionally the video guide provided by extreme rate leaves a lot to be desired.

Don't get me wrong, once it's installed it's super cool, but it is a challenging process to get them installed. I'd recommend buying a roll of very thin nonconductive double sided tape to aid in sticking the board down where it's supposed to go. Something similar to tape used to hold screens in place for laptops.

When I installed the first LED button kit I ordered it took awhile and had more than a bit of a learning curve, however once completed was incredibly satisfying especially with the all black shells. The second kit took half the time and was far less frustrating. Definitely check the manual and look at the video on Youtube, it makes a huge difference (which should be obvious). Changing the lights or turning them off or on once installed is very easy, battery drain is minimal if even noticeable at all. A few buttons stick but that may be user error on my part. Overall Id say its worth it if you want to trick out your favorite joy-cons.
