Gameboy Advance Tactile Conversion PCB - HHL

Still a bit on the fence about this mod. I wanted to give it some time before passing judgment. I tried several membranes and none really felt all that great I ended up using a well-worn funny playing membrane. Everything just feels really tight when it's all buttoned up, a custom-made membrane would probably feel much better. As it is it's clicky and not too hard to press.

I had to make a shim for the center to stop the D-pad from mashing all the buttons at once. It worked pretty well. I ultimately discarded the start/select buttons (had issues with existing mods) and the A & B buttons due to how the membrane felt. I would feel the flexing of the membrane right before the button press making it feel like a double press.

If there was a custom membrane(s) for this so things wouldn't have to be screwed down so tightly, an make the press feel lighter, it would elevate this mod a lot. There's just a lot of membrane crammed into a tighter space now.

Not only does it make all the buttons clicky but they are no longer mushy. I tried some 3D printed addons and even a slip of paper to get rid of the button mushyness, but those were all terrible 'fixes' for the mushy buttons. This mod truly makes the GBA feel like its supposed to and should be standard in any modded console!

I did this mod with the HHL RGB lighting as well as a bunch of other on board mods. I had to set the tactile conversion kit on the very base layer then relayer all the other mods on top. I did have some issues first go around where my A button wasn't working or my B button. I noticed i didn't solder the square pin in the top right corner, so I did that and the issue was resolved. Not sure if thats what caused the issue or if i set the PCB down poorly. Overall just double check you are well lined up and flush to the board!

I’ve tried several clicks shoulder buttons, and these have by far been the easiest to install and the most complimented among my customers. 10/10

Install instructions weren't on the page (that I can remember) but I found a tik tok with them after googling. I had to desolder the OSD cable for my clean screen, but it was easy to solder back on over the tactile conversion kit and works perfectly. Seems to be just as responsive as the old button type and it feels better. Coupled with the clicky shoulder buttons its almost a brand new GBA Revision.

Super easy to install, not too clicky but clicky enough that they made mushy membranes feel pretty good. Only thing I could recommend would be to add a picture off all the connection points. I had to go back once cuz I missed 2 I didn’t realize were connections
